ON A VU HAMED ABDALLA IN LONDON, ARAB MODERNISM

DEAR READERS,

LIKE MANY OF US YOU ARE AWARE OF THE MODERNIST TREND THAT IS ACTUALLY SPREADING ON VARIOUS FIELDS OF CREATION (TYPOGRAPHY, DESIGN, FASHION…). NEXT YEAR IT’S 100TH YEAR OF THE CREATION OF THE GERMAN ART SCHOOL STAATLICHES BAUHAUS, ROOTS OF MODERNISM ART MOVEMENT.

BUT MODERNISM IS NOT ONLY AN OCCIDENTAL STYLE AS THE MOSAIC ROOM GALLERY SERIES OF THREE EXHIBITIONS CALLED COSMIC ROADS PRESENTS.

HAMED ABDALLA (1917-1985) PIONEER OF EGYPTIAN MODERNISM, IS THE FIRST OF THE TRILOGY TO BE EXHIBITED.
HIS WORK IS CENTRED ON WHAT HE CALLED « THE CREATIVE WORD »: WRITTEN WORDS EXPRESSED IN PAINT, EXPLORING THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN COLOUR, TEXTURES, ABSTRACTION AND WORDS.
FOR THIS FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION CALLED ARABÉCÉDAIRE (FROM THR FRENCH WORD « ABÉCÉDAIRE », MEANING A VISUAL ALPHABET PRIMER), FIVE LETTERS, BUT SIX WORDS (STILL WONDER WHY) WERE CHOOSEN L FOR LOVERS AND LETTERISM, N FOR NUBIA, R FOR REVOLUTION, C FOR CAVES, K FOR KLEE.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS DAY ONLY TWO ROOMS WERE ACCESSIBLE.

THE EXHIBITION WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE PROVOCATIVE IRAN ARTIST BAHMAN MOHASSES THEN MOROCCAN ARTIST MOHAMED MELEHI
